Why Everyone Should Consider a Lasting Power of Attorney

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is one of the most important documents you can put in place during your lifetime. It allows you to legally appoint someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you lose the mental or physical capacity to do so yourself.

There are two types of LPA:

1. Property and Financial Affairs LPA

Covers decisions about money, banking, property, bills, and other financial matters.

2. Health and Welfare LPA

Covers decisions about your health, medical treatment, living arrangements, and day-to-day care.

Ready to talk?

Without an LPA in place, even your spouse or children have no automatic legal right to act for you. If something unexpected happens such as an accident, stroke, dementia, or serious illness. Your family would need to apply to the Court of Protection, a process that is expensive, time consuming, and stressful.

An LPA provides reassurance that your chosen representative will make the right decisions, in your best interest, when you are no longer able to. It’s not just for the elderly, it’s for anyone who wants to stay in control of their future.

Creating a Lasting Power of Attorney is a proactive way to safeguard your health, your finances, and your family from future uncertainty.
